Om Malik links to a interesting story at Forbes this week about the disappearance of the small ISP over the past few years. This was inevitable, as bandwidth commoditized and so-called value-added services with ISPs never took ground. It's seems that it's the BLECs like Cogent Communications that are setting the stage to win in the long run, taking a utilities approach to Internet service provisioning. Among a host of others, the company bought both PSINet (Allied Riser) and Verio in the past years... Who said telecoms was dead?
